Matt Bushman, BYU Tight End

Age 24 • Orem • Scorpio

The Bushman family lived in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, which led Matt and his family to relocate in Tucson, Arizona. As a high school senior several years later, Matt became the perfect storm on the field and was invited to play in the All-American Semper Fidelis game. As a tight end for BYU, Matt was named a Freshman All-American in 2017. During his freshman and sophomore years, he led the Cougars in receptions. Most recently, Cougar fans roared when Matt chose to stay and play his senior year at BYU instead of entering the NFL draft. Rise and shout!

Written in the Stars “I have been blessed with a physical body that allows me to compete at high levels in sports. My freshman year at BYU I played baseball and football, and although it was challenging it was a lot of fun. Throughout high school I enjoyed football, basketball, and baseball. I want to see how good I can be! I’m also excited to be a dad later this year and teach my kids the joy sports can bring.”

Shoot for the Stars “Since I was little, I have wanted to play in the NFL. I think about it every single day. It motivates me to work hard.”

Starry-Eyed “My wife, Emily, has me starstruck. I can’t take my eyes off her!”

A Star is Born “My mission to Chile for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was defining. It taught me hard work and toughness. It was a road map for my life, and I am glad I was able to serve! I came closer to my Savior Jesus Christ, and because of that I was prepared for my wife, Emily.”

Lucky Star “I feel lucky to be where I am right now. Going into my senior year of high school, I flipped my dad’s truck and was lucky to walk away with only cuts and bruises.”
